Featuring some of the most beautiful Fall scenery in our part of the world, the West Virginia Mountains are gorgeous at this time of the year. Whether viewing the lovely countryside from the comfort of our motor coach or out the window of the train, you are sure to enjoy the great scenery offered up on this excursion.

The Amtrak Cardinal train excursion along the Kanawha and New Rivers has been rated as one of the top ten rail excursions in the eastern United States for the past 20 years. As Fall arrives, the countryside along the West Virginia rivers really dresses up in Autumn colors and the small towns and villages join in.

Following our overnight in West Virginia's capitol of Charleston, we will board the Cardinal for our ride along the rivers to the small mountain community of Hinton, where we will re-board our motor coach and drive to Canyon Rim Visitor's Center on the rim of the New River Gorge. Here, we will find the New River Gorge Bridge. Here, we will find the New River Gorge Bridge. This is the second highest bridge in the United States and a true engineering marvel spanning the New River Gorge. Featured in numerous television ads and movies because of the sheer wonder of the building a bridge like this across a gorge like, you are sure to be impressed with the beauty atop the gorge and the wonderful photographic opportunities found here. At the visitor's center, you will find information on the construction of this marvel and a short film about it. After enjoying the train ride through the gorge and the visit atop the gorge, this evening we will visit the Tamarack Center in Beckley, West Virginia. This fully enclosed shopping venue is filled with crafts and goods produced by West Virginia artisans and features a food court operated by the Greenbrier Hotel which offers many great dinner options for the evening.
