This fun tour is offered in cooperation with the Gateway Bank Freedom 50 Club. Mt. Airy is the birthplace of Andy Griffith & the inspiration for "Mayberry". We will arrive at the visitor's center to enjoy the largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia in the country.

Our step-on guide will take us to Wally's Service Station, the Courthouse & Jail, Emmet's Fix-It Shop, Floyd's Barbershop, Snappy Lunch, Andy's home place, the world's largest open granite quarry & several other interesting sights in the area.

We will begin Tuesday with another visit to the small downtown area of Mt. Airy to enjoy shopping at the Emporium & also revisit some of the sights in this quaint mountain town.

After lunch we will take the short drive to "Old Salem", a restored colonial village known as the Williamsburg of the South. Established in 1753 by the German speaking Moravians who, even in those days were considered different due to their unusual style of dress, worship & communal living. We will step back in time & visit Salem's early residents as the costumed interpreters go about their daily chores & interact with us, demonstrating their trades & day to day activities in the bakery, candy shop, shoemaker, market-fire house, blacksmith, tobacco shop, tavern-hotel, etc.

A Moravian-style dinner cooked the old fashioned way is served to us by costumed interpreters this evening at the Old Salem Tavern.

We hope there will still be beautiful leaf color to enjoy along the way.
